February News Prior to election: Wisconsin LWV Candidate Forum for Superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI)
The 7 candidates for State Superintendent will be on the February 16, 2021, non-partisan Primary Ballot, so mark your calendar. The two candidates with the most votes will then run-off on the April 6 general election.
LISTEN / VIEW THE CANDIDATES: The link at the bottom will take you to the Wisconsin Network site where you can find information about the seven candidates for Wisconsin Superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). You can also view the January 7, Wisconsin League of Women Voters candidate forum (2 hours long, but the 10 questions can be viewed in parts).
The DPI superintendent works with the legislature to set the direction, budget, and policies for our schools in the post-Covid future. Hopefully, she / he will help address the lessons we’ve learned during the pandemic in terms of our schools.

UPDATE: A forum will be held for the candidates for the Gibraltar School Board. The date is to be determined and this site will be updated with more information.
Door County League of Women Voters offers to host Candidate Forums
After the Jan. 5 deadline to file nomination papers for the spring election, candidates, non-partisan organizations and local citizens can contact the the Door County League of Women Voters about hosting a candidate forum.
A request for a voters forum must be made between Jan. 6-21 by contacting Dan Powers at lwvdcprez@gmail.com or 920-743-6796. The request must be made no later than Jan. 21.
Local spring non-partisan elections MAY include contested seats for towns, villages and city (but not for county supervisors), and school boards.
Forums may be requested by any candidate, non-partisan group, or individual citizen. However, the League will proceed ONLY if the position is contested (i.e. more than one candidate is running for that seat), at least two (2) of the candidates agree to participate, and a venue and time can be agreed upon and arranged.
Spring Forums will most likely be conducted online and then made available to the public through the LWVDC Website and Facebook.
It is the policy of the Door County League of Women Voters to conduct one candidate forum per race. If there is a primary, the forum – if possible - would be held before the Feb. 16 primary election. If there is not a primary, forums will be held during the general election season prior to the April 6 vote. The deadline for making a forum request to the LWVDC is JANUARY 21, 2021.
Requests will be considered in the order in which they are received.
As an organization, the League does not support or oppose political parties or candidates for public office. The goal of LWV sponsored Candidates Forums is to inform citizens and to provide candidates with a nonpartisan opportunity and equal time to respond to submitted written questions about their positions on issues. Candidates never see the questions prior to the forum.
